Karachi Jeweller Stages Fake Robbery to Avoid Loan Repayment

KARACHI: In a bizarre incident in the business district of **Saddar**, a jeweller staged a fake robbery worth **Rs4 million** to buy time and evade his creditors.
According to **DSP Preedy Liaqat Hayat**, the jeweller, **Mahzoor**, informed the police that two armed men had looted silver jewelry worth Rs4 million from his shop on Raja Ghazanfar Ali Road.
When police rushed to the scene, they found Mahzoor calmly drinking tea, while neighbors had no knowledge of any robbery. Suspicious about why the alleged robbers had not taken all the jewelry, officers checked CCTV footage, which revealed no intruders at the shop.
Further investigation exposed that Mahzoor had fabricated the story to delay repayment to his creditors. The police took him to the station, but later, following **intervention by the jewellers’ association** and the shop owner’s apology, the matter was resolved without further legal action.
The case highlights how fraudulent claims can disrupt law enforcement resources and the importance of verifying reports before mobilizing emergency responses.
