Governor Nihal Hashmi strongly condemned the attack, stating that terrorism would never be tolerated and that all efforts would continue to eliminate the menace. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah praised the Rangers personnel for thwarting the terrorists’ plans and reaffirmed the provincial government’s support for the country’s security forces in the fight against terrorism.
Following the funeral prayers, the bodies of the martyrs were sent to their hometowns for burial with full military honors.
Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, accompanied by the Sindh Governor, visited the site of the attack to review the security situation.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), terrorists identified by the military as members of the banned Jamaat-ul-Ahrar attempted to storm a Rangers camp near Mosamiat Chowrangi on University Road late Friday night after detonating an explosive device. Rangers personnel responded immediately, killing three attackers during the exchange of fire and capturing a fourth terrorist alive in an injured condition.
The ISPR stated that preliminary investigations indicate the arrested suspect is an Afghan national and is being interrogated by security agencies.
The attack claimed the lives of three Rangers personnel and left four others injured, who were shifted to hospital for treatment. Security forces later cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to ensure no additional attackers remained in the vicinity.
The military said counterterrorism operations would continue with full determination and reiterated that those responsible for the attack, along with their facilitators, would be held accountable.
Field Marshal Asim Munir also expressed his condolences to the families of the martyrs, paying tribute to their sacrifices and affirming that Pakistan’s fight against terrorism would continue until the threat is completely eradicated.
