Taxi Registration Begins in Islamabad; Free Replacement for Stolen or Lost E-Tags for Motorcycles

Islamabad: Irfan Nawaz Memon announced that the registration process for taxis has started in the federal capital, while motorcycle riders will receive free replacement E-Tags if theirs are lost or stolen.
Speaking in Islamabad, he said that in case of a stolen E-Tag, citizens can call the helpline to block the device. By providing their motorcycle registration and receipt numbers, the system will block the E-Tag to prevent misuse.
The Deputy Commissioner explained that the security system aims to enhance public safety and protection. He added that the system includes modern features to securely store motorcycle information and assist security agencies when needed.
Regarding taxi registration, Memon stated that around 19,000 taxis have already been registered in Islamabad. Taxi drivers will be required to record passenger information, including pickup and drop-off locations, to ensure accountability.
He also noted that, similar to most countries, operating a taxi without registration or a license is prohibited in Islamabad, and violators will face action under the new system.
Finally, the Deputy Commissioner dismissed circulating social media reports of threats or security concerns in the city, emphasizing that these rumors are unfounded and urging citizens not to pay attention to unverified information.
