PM Shehbaz Sharif Hails Iranian President’s Visit, Reaffirms Pakistan’s Role in Regional Peace

KARACHI:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan reflected the strong brotherly ties between the two countries and acknowledged Pakistan’s important role in promoting regional peace.

Addressing the Pakistan Navy Passing-Out Parade in Karachi, the prime minister congratulated the graduating cadets and expressed pleasure at the participation of cadets from friendly countries. He also praised the Pakistan Navy for its outstanding performance in safeguarding the country’s interests.

The prime minister said that the understanding reached between Iran and the United States was a matter of pride for Pakistan. He stated that, through Pakistan’s sincere diplomatic efforts, a memorandum of understanding was signed in Islamabad, describing the agreement as a significant diplomatic achievement. He also appreciated the cooperation of both countries in the process and commended Field Marshal Asim Munir for his tireless efforts in promoting peace and stability.

Shehbaz Sharif said President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit underscored the close and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran while recognizing Pakistan’s constructive role in the region.

Referring to regional security, the prime minister said major changes were taking place in the region that would have far-reaching consequences. He alleged that Pakistan’s eastern neighbour had turned to using proxy groups after facing defeat and claimed that Pakistan continued to confront externally sponsored terrorism. He reaffirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces remained fully committed to defeating terrorism and eliminating the threat.

The prime minister added that Pakistan was recognized globally as a proponent of peace and reiterated the country’s unwavering support for the people of Kashmir and Palestine.
