PM’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah: Promotion of General Asim Munir to Field Marshal Won’t Affect His Tenure

Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs and Inter-Provincial Coordination, Rana Sanaullah, has clarified that the promotion of Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal will not impact his tenure of service. Speaking to a private TV channel, Rana Sanaullah expressed that the entire nation had wanted General Asim Munir to be honored with the prestigious title of Field Marshal.
He emphasized, “General Syed Asim Munir was the driving force behind Operation Bunyam al-Marsus, and the law under the Army Act allows for such an honor to be bestowed. It is within the cabinet’s authority to make this decision.”
Rana Sanaullah further stated that the title of Field Marshal is an enduring honor that stays with the individual for life, and added, “Some people are finding it difficult to digest General Asim Munir being promoted to Field Marshal.”
The government’s decision to promote General Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal was widely celebrated, while it was also decided to extend the service of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Saddo, despite the completion of his tenure.
Previously, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had also praised the promotion of General Asim Munir, stating that it was a national recognition of his exceptional leadership during the operation and an acknowledgment of his contributions to the nation’s defense.
