US Eases Travel Restrictions for Iran’s World Cup Squad Ahead of Egypt Clash

Washington:** The United States has eased travel restrictions on Iran’s national football team participating in the FIFA World Cup, allowing the squad to enter the country two days before its next match.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, the Iranian team has been granted permission to travel to the United States ahead of its Group-stage fixture against Egypt, scheduled for Friday.
Despite the relaxation of restrictions, US authorities have stated that the team must leave the country immediately after the match.
Officials said the Iranian squad will travel from Tijuana, Mexico, to Seattle on Wednesday in preparation for the game.
The Department of Homeland Security noted that during Iran’s earlier World Cup matches, the team had only been permitted to enter the United States one day before kick-off.
According to the White House FIFA Task Force, the decision to ease travel restrictions was made after reviewing the team’s conduct and compliance during its first two visits under the existing arrangements.
Previously, US authorities had rejected Iran’s request to enter the country two days before a World Cup match, making the latest decision a significant adjustment to the travel policy affecting the team.
The move is expected to provide Iran with additional preparation time ahead of the crucial encounter against Egypt as the tournament progresses.
