Gastroenteritis and Diarrhea Cases Surge in Karachi Hospitals

KARACHI, June 23, 2026 — Cases of gastroenteritis and diarrhea have increased significantly across Karachi, leading to a heavy influx of patients in major public hospitals.
According to Dr. Imran Sarwar, emergency departments are witnessing a continuous rush of patients suffering from stomach-related illnesses. He said that more than 200 patients with abdominal diseases and diarrhea are being brought daily to Civil Hospital Karachi.
At Jinnah Hospital, the number of gastroenteritis and diarrhea patients has also exceeded 150 per day, placing additional pressure on medical facilities.
Health experts reported that citizens are arriving with symptoms including stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, and severe loose motions. Doctors warned that improperly cooked meat, especially if frozen and not handled correctly, can lead to serious stomach infections.
Medical professionals further stated that the primary cause of the outbreak appears to be contaminated and unhygienic food. They advised the public to consume fresh and clean food, keep meals properly covered, and store items at appropriate refrigerator temperatures to prevent bacterial contamination.
Authorities have urged citizens to take precautionary measures as hot weather conditions and food safety issues continue to contribute to the spread of gastrointestinal diseases in the city.
