PPP’s Amjad Hussain Advocate Elected Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Unopposed

GILGIT: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Amjad Hussain Advocate has been elected unopposed as the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hafiz Hafeez ur Rehman was elected unopposed as the Leader of the Opposition.

Amjad Hussain Advocate is regarded as one of Gilgit-Baltistan’s prominent political figures. He was elected as a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council in 2009 and gradually established a strong position in regional politics through his active political engagement.

In 2015, he was appointed President of the Pakistan Peoples Party Gilgit-Baltistan chapter, where he played a key role in strengthening the party organization and expanding its political influence across the region.

During the 2020 elections, Amjad Hussain was elected as a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly from GBA-1 Gilgit and later served as the Leader of the Opposition in the assembly.

Following the recent political process, he once again secured a seat in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly in the 2026 elections and has now been elected Chief Minister without opposition.

Meanwhile, PML-N leader Hafiz Hafeez ur Rehman was also elected unopposed as the Leader of the Opposition, reflecting a consensus-based arrangement in the newly formed assembly.
