Several Bottled Water Brands in Pakistan Declared Unsafe: PCRWR Issues New Report

Islamabad — The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has declared multiple bottled water brands unsafe for human consumption in its latest quarterly report.

According to the analysis conducted for July to September, 26 out of 205 tested brands failed to meet the required quality standards. The report reveals that 17 brands were contaminated with harmful bacteria. These include A2Z Pure Drinking Water, New Mehran, Zalmi, Pure Life, Deer Drinking Water, Dream Pure, Gulf, Crystal Aqua, Roha Water, Premium Drinking Water, Fresh Aqua, Asia Healthy Drinking Water, Iceberg, Lasani, Volga, and Maya Premium.

Several brands were found to contain excessive chemical components, while many were contaminated with dangerous microorganisms. Experts warn that consuming such water may pose serious health risks.

The PCRWR further noted that four brands contained abnormally high sodium levels, including Pure Drinking Water, Ultsan, and Purifa. Elevated arsenic levels were detected in Natural Pure Life, Aqua Nest, Premium Safa Purified Water, Piu Pani Bottle Drinking Water, and Volga.

Two brands — My Pure Water and Smart Pure Life — were found to have potassium levels above the permissible limit. In some samples, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) were also significantly higher than the safe range.

The council cautioned that contaminated water can lead to various diseases, urging consumers to exercise extreme care when purchasing bottled water and to use only certified and quality-assured brands.
