Ali Muhammad Khan Calls for Respect for Armed Forces and Judiciary in National Assembly

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly Ali Muhammad Khan has said that the country’s armed forces and judiciary should not be subjected to criticism, emphasizing the need to respect key state institutions.

Speaking during a session of the National Assembly, Ali Muhammad Khan stated that criticism of the armed forces and the judiciary should be avoided. He also raised concerns regarding the media coverage of parliamentary proceedings, claiming that speeches delivered by opposition lawmakers were not being broadcast.

The PTI lawmaker called for the removal of what he described as restrictions on the airing of opposition speeches.

Responding to the remarks, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq rejected the allegation, stating that no such restrictions existed and that opposition speeches were not being deliberately blocked.

Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan also addressed the House, asserting that opposition speeches were often cut off during broadcasts. He urged that even if such speeches were aired later, they should still be shown to the public.

In response, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said that he had to take national security considerations into account when overseeing parliamentary proceedings. Barrister Gohar replied that opposition members did not make statements against national security and therefore their speeches should be broadcast without interruption.

The exchange highlighted ongoing concerns raised by opposition lawmakers regarding media coverage of parliamentary debates and the visibility of their views in the public sphere.
