Hafiz Hamdullah Questions Passage of Telecommunication Bill in National Assembly

Islamabad: Former Senator Hafiz Hamdullah has raised concerns over the passage of the controversial Telecommunication Bill in the National Assembly, questioning whether lawmakers were “asleep” or had willingly approved it.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said the bill is similar to forcibly evicting someone from a house under the pretext of installing a mobile tower, or imposing a heavy penalty of Rs50 million if the property is not vacated.

He alleged that the legislation violates constitutional and human rights, claiming it effectively deprives citizens of shelter. He described the bill as “official hooliganism” and questioned what difference remains between the government and a land-grabbing mafia.

Hafiz Hamdullah urged the Senate to reject the bill, calling it an anti-people measure and a severe example of public injustice. He further questioned how the bill was passed in the National Assembly, asking whether members were asleep during the proceedings or had deliberately supported it.
