Kahan Valley Residents in Kohlu Demand Basic Facilities Amid Severe Infrastructure Crisis

KOHLU: Kahan Valley, located 105 km from Kohlu, 40 km from Dera Bugti, and 130 km from Sibi, is home to an estimated population of around 150,000 people. Despite its size, the area continues to remain deprived of basic facilities, with residents describing their living conditions as extremely underdeveloped.

Locals say the valley still lacks essential services, including healthcare, education, communication networks, and proper road infrastructure. They claim that the absence of mobile network coverage prevents them from staying in contact with relatives, while the lack of hospitals forces patients to be transported to Kohlu or other cities—often resulting in fatalities during transit.

Residents further highlighted that poor road conditions make transportation of patients and goods extremely difficult. They also said that the closure of schools is severely affecting children’s education and future prospects.

According to local accounts, more than 50 schools exist in the region, but many remain closed. Some of the affected institutions include Government Primary School Basti Mola Dad, Government Boys Primary School Daman, Government Boys Primary School Saida Kachar, Government Boys Primary School Sakhari Zarin, Government Boys Primary School Habib Shirani, Government Boys Primary School Kashi, Government Boys Primary School Karpasi, Government Boys Primary School Killi Salaman, Government Boys Primary School Reekh, Government Boys Primary School Jatki, Government Boys Primary School Manak Band, Government Middle School Habib Langhani, Government High School Kahan, and several others.

Residents of Kahan have appealed to the Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, MPA Nawab Changez Marri, Nawab Gazin Marri, and other authorities to take immediate action. They demand that Kahan be included in development projects and that schools, hospitals, roads, and communication networks be restored.

They stressed that the people of Kahan deserve the same basic facilities as other regions, urging the government and relevant institutions to address the long-standing neglect and ensure access to fundamental human rights.
