Balochistan CM Sarfaraz Bugti Addresses Challenges in Education, Health, and Governance
Quetta:Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti emphasized that providing education, healthcare, and basic facilities to the widely dispersed population of the province is a significant challenge. He acknowledged that due to poor governance, the benefits of available resources are not reaching the common Balochistani. Despite allocating billions of rupees annually for health and education, the results remain disappointing. Bugti stated that reforms will be implemented to activate these departments.
He expressed these views during a video link address at the National Dialogue on Pakistan’s Crisis organized by the Oxford Alumni Community Pakistan at the Governor’s House in Quetta. The Chief Minister also responded to questions from participants and shared his thoughts on various topics, including governance, law and order, and climate change.
Bugti pointed out that Balochistan faces challenges related to environmental change, security, and governance. He noted that the province suffers significant losses each year due to unusual rains and floods resulting from climate change. He mentioned that feasibility studies are underway to reorganize the canal system in the Naseerabad division.
To improve healthcare facilities, Bugti revealed plans to grant financial and administrative autonomy to major public hospitals to establish exemplary medical service delivery institutions. He also highlighted the detrimental impact of baseless social media propaganda in creating a divide between the state and the youth, asserting that the government aims to guide youth towards education and development.
In a significant step, the Chief Minister announced the initiation of the Benazir Bhutto Scholarship Program, which provides quality educational opportunities from matriculation to PhD levels for all Balochistani students, regardless of their socio-economic status.
Bugti reiterated the importance of viewing the general perception about Balochistan from both sides, emphasizing his commitment to improving governance in the province and gradually addressing all issues.
