Punjab Law Department proposes change in budget presentation date

Lahore: The Punjab Law Department has proposed changing the date for the presentation of the provincial budget, citing procedural and legislative considerations.

According to sources, the Punjab Finance Department has suggested presenting the budget on June 12. However, the Law Department has advised against holding the budget session on a Friday due to the public holiday and has recommended that a special assembly session not be convened on that day.

The department further suggested that a regular session of the Punjab Assembly be called instead, allowing lawmakers to address pending legislative business alongside budget-related proceedings.

Officials noted that three bills still require approval and that pending legislation could be passed during a routine assembly session.

The Law Department also pointed out that bills cannot be approved during a session convened exclusively for the budget, making a regular assembly sitting a more practical option for completing both financial and legislative agendas.
