Overeating Meat During Eid Leads to Surge in Patients at Karachi Hospitals

KARACHI:Hospitals across Karachi reported a significant increase in patients suffering from stomach-related illnesses during the three days of Eid, with doctors linking the surge to excessive meat consumption and poor dietary balance.
Medical staff said cases of vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain rose sharply in public hospitals as citizens indulged in heavy meat-based meals during Eid celebrations.
According to the emergency in-charge at Civil Hospital Karachi, Dr. Imran, more than 100 patients with complaints of vomiting and stomach pain were brought to the hospital on the second day of Eid alone. He added that a similar number of patients arrived on the third day with gastrointestinal issues.
At Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, officials reported that over 50 patients with stomach-related problems visited the emergency department on the first day of Eid.
Civil Hospital emergency in-charge Irfan Siddiqui stated that excessive consumption of meat, low water intake, and an unbalanced diet were the primary reasons behind the increase in cases of vomiting, diarrhea, and indigestion.
Medical experts advised citizens to maintain a balanced diet by including vegetables, salads, and adequate water intake along with meat. They further cautioned against consuming large quantities of meat in a single sitting, warning that it can put excessive strain on the digestive system.
Doctors emphasized that moderation in diet is essential to avoid gastrointestinal complications, especially during festive occasions like Eid.
