Government Employees Demand 100% Salary and Pension Increase Ahead of Budget

Islamabad: A major standoff has emerged between government employees and the federal government ahead of the upcoming budget, as public sector workers have demanded a 100 percent increase in salaries and pensions.

According to details, the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA) has called on the government to significantly raise wages and pensions in the new federal budget, warning of strong protests if their demands are not met.

The employees’ body has demanded that the minimum wage for labourers be set at Rs 50,000, while the minimum pension for retirees should also be increased to Rs 50,000. They further demanded a 30 percent allowance to address pay disparities among underpaid employees.

AGEGA leaders have also announced plans to stage a sit-in protest outside the Ministry of Finance a day before the budget announcement, followed by a demonstration outside Parliament on the day of the budget presentation.

A spokesperson for the alliance said that if their charter of demands is not implemented, they will launch a full-scale protest movement. The group also urged the government to honour the agreement made on March 10, 2025.

Meanwhile, the federal government has indicated that some relief may be provided to employees and pensioners in line with inflation, but no final decision has been announced.

The federal budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 will be presented in the National Assembly and Senate on June 5, while a special federal cabinet meeting is also scheduled for the same day. The Economic Survey for 2025-26 is set to be released on June 4.
