Khawaja Asif Reveals Nawaz Sharif Once Offered Him Prime Ministership
Lahore: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has revealed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif once offered him the position of Prime Minister, but he declined the offer.
Speaking on a television program, Khawaja Asif said he thanked Nawaz Sharif for the proposal but refused to accept it, stating that the responsibility was beyond his capacity.
“I said it is not my cup of tea and the burden of responsibility would increase. If I failed to deliver, people would say I took the job just out of personal desire,” he remarked.
The Defence Minister added that he shares a close, brotherly relationship with Nawaz Sharif, describing their bond as affectionate and based on mutual respect.
Khawaja Asif further said that although he was offered opportunities multiple times in the past, he declined them each time. He noted that he has been a senior leader of the PML-N and has remained part of the federal cabinet during various PML-N governments.
The statement has drawn attention as the senior politician is considered one of Nawaz Sharif’s closest political associates and has held key ministerial positions over the years.
