Murder Case Registered Against Police Constable in Lyari Woman Killing Incident

Karachi: Police have registered a murder case against a police constable after a 25-year-old woman was shot dead in Lyari, and the suspect has been taken into custody.

According to police officials, the incident took place on Monday evening in Gul Mohammad Lane, Area No. 15 of Allama Iqbal Colony, Bakra Peeri, Lyari, where 25-year-old Batool was found dead after being shot in the forehead.

A case (FIR No. 156/2026) was registered under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s father, Muhammad Hanif, naming the deceased woman’s neighbor, police constable Asif, as the main accused.

Speaking to media, the victim’s father said Batool was married in December 2018 to a resident of Hyderabad, Farhan, and had a four-year-old son. He added that she had been living with her sister in Lyari for the past one and a half years after separating from her husband due to domestic issues.

The victim’s sister, Sonia, stated that on the day of the incident, Batool had gone to the house of their neighbor, police constable Asif, to prepare snacks for her son due to a gas outage. She claimed that shortly afterward, Asif’s 12-year-old son informed them that Batool had allegedly shot herself with a pistol.

However, when family members rushed to the scene, they found Batool’s body lying in the kitchen in a pool of blood. Her mobile phone and purse were present at the scene, but the pistol was initially missing.

Batool sustained a gunshot wound to the forehead, with the bullet exiting from the back of her head. She was immediately shifted to the Trauma Centre of Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors confirmed her death.

The wife of accused constable Asif told police that her husband was not at home at the time of the incident and that his official pistol was kept on top of a refrigerator. She also stated that Batool allegedly took the weapon from the child and committed suicide.

However, police officials said they had already detained Asif for questioning. Additional SHO Kalakot, Muhammad Iqrar, stated that while the accused denies involvement, inconsistencies in the scene raised suspicions, including the gunshot angle and the disappearance of the weapon from the crime scene.

Investigators further noted that most suicide cases involve a shot to the temple rather than the forehead, adding that the pistol was later recovered and handed over to police for forensic examination.

Police said both possibilities—suicide or murder—are being investigated, and further facts will emerge after interrogation of the accused.
