Jamaat-e-Islami Protest Over Inflation and Insecurity Blocked by Police in Quetta

QUETTA (Qudrat News) – An attempt by Jamaat-e-Islami to stage a protest against rising inflation and insecurity outside the Quetta Press Club was blocked by police deployment, including heavy contingents and armored vehicles.

The protest was organized in response to a nationwide call by Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan leader Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman. However, police cordoned off the Press Club gates and prevented the demonstrators from gathering.

During the operation, police reportedly confiscated party flags and banners from the protesters.

The situation became tense when Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan leader and Member of the Provincial Assembly Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch arrived along with party workers, declaring their intent to court arrest.

Workers chanted strong slogans against the police and provincial government, protesting the restrictions on peaceful demonstration.

Speaking to the media and party workers, Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch strongly criticized the government, saying that preventing peaceful protests had revived memories of authoritarian rule. He stated that Section 144 should be used against criminals, drug dealers, and corrupt elements instead of political workers.

He further said that an “anti-people system” was currently in place, responsible for increasing inflation and hardship for citizens, while recent fuel price hikes had further worsened the situation for the common man.

He added that rising insecurity, open drug trafficking, and cases of missing persons in Balochistan were deeply concerning, but instead of addressing these issues, authorities were suppressing public protests.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader urged the government to take concrete steps to control inflation, improve governance, and take action against corruption, stressing that the poor were bearing the brunt of the current economic crisis.
