Pakistan Secures Eight Oil and Gas Exploration Blocks in Major Energy Sector Development

ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has secured eight offshore oil and gas exploration blocks under the Offshore Bid Round 2025, marking a significant development in Pakistan’s energy sector.
According to an OGDC spokesperson, the initiative represents the formal revival of offshore exploration activities in Pakistan after nearly two decades.
Ali Pervaiz Malik described the development as an important step forward for the country’s energy sector.
The spokesperson said OGDC will operate two of the exploration blocks, while participating as a joint venture partner in six others. The move is expected to attract investment and strengthen Pakistan’s energy security.
Officials further stated that the Offshore Bid Round 2025 marks the beginning of a new era for the country’s energy industry.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Petroleum Limited has submitted details of the agreement signed with the federal petroleum minister to the management of the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
Pakistan’s offshore regions in the Indus and Makran basins are believed to contain significant oil and gas reserves. Under the agreement, new reserves will be explored and extracted from coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
The exploration areas include Gharo, Kuchi Creek, Keti Bandar, Bin Qasim South, Bahr, Zarar, Offshore Deep D, and Sapat Bandar. Under the agreement, Pakistan Petroleum Limited will independently operate the Gharo Creek and Kuchi Creek blocks.
