Man Ordered to Pay 60,000 Dirhams for Repeated Phone Harassment in Dubai

DUBAI: A man has been ordered to pay 60,000 dirhams in compensation after being found guilty of repeatedly harassing another individual through continuous phone calls that caused emotional distress.
According to court records, the victim filed a civil lawsuit seeking 100,000 dirhams in moral and emotional damages, alleging that the defendant intentionally caused harm by persistently contacting him via phone.
The case had previously gone through criminal proceedings, during which the defendant was convicted of deliberately causing nuisance and disturbance through repeated phone calls. In that earlier ruling, the court had already granted an interim compensation of 51,000 dirhams.
During the civil proceedings, the defendant argued that the claim should be dismissed, stating that the elements of civil liability were not fully established and that partial compensation had already been awarded. However, the court rejected this defense, noting that criminal judgments carry legal weight in related civil disputes.
The court emphasized that official records and the prior criminal conviction confirmed the defendant’s intentional actions, which resulted in moral harm and emotional suffering to the victim.
Ultimately, the court ruled that fair compensation for the damages amounted to 60,000 dirhams, bringing the total compensation in the case to 51,000 dirhams previously awarded plus an additional 9,000 dirhams ordered in the civil ruling.
