Jamaat-e-Islami to Hold Protest in Islamabad Against Petrol Price Hike

Islamabad:Jamaat-e-Islami will stage a protest demonstration in Islamabad today against the recent increase in petrol prices.
The protest will take place at Aabpara Chowk and will be led by the party’s chief, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman. A large number of party workers and supporters are expected to participate in the demonstration.
In his message, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said that the ex-refinery price of petrol currently stands at Rs271 per litre, adding that selling petrol at Rs415 per litre is “completely unjust.”
He criticized the government for imposing a petroleum levy of Rs117 per litre, calling it an unnecessary burden on the public and demanding its immediate abolition.
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief further alleged that the government has turned petrol prices into a tool for burdening citizens and meeting the targets set by the International Monetary Fund.
He stated that the petroleum levy has no direct connection with the actual price of petrol and accused the government of misleading the public.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman warned that if the party’s demands were not met, Jamaat-e-Islami would launch a nationwide protest movement.
