Rising Street Crimes in Quetta Making Citizens’ Lives Miserable

QUETTA: Increasing incidents of street crime in Quetta have created fear and anxiety among residents, while police are facing criticism over their inability to protect citizens’ lives and property.
According to local residents, armed criminals are openly snatching motorcycles, mobile phones, and cash from people in broad daylight in some of the city’s busiest areas, including Jinnah Road, Zarghoon Road, Sariab Road, and Balochi Street in Satellite Town.
Citizens complained that despite informing the police about such incidents, they rarely receive an immediate response, and stolen belongings are seldom recovered. The worsening law and order situation has led to growing public concern and insecurity across the provincial capital.
Public and social circles have also questioned police performance, saying it is difficult to understand how dozens of motorcycles are being stolen daily despite the presence of checkpoints throughout the city.
Residents have urged the Inspector General of Police Balochistan and district administration to improve the patrolling system and launch immediate targeted operations against criminal elements.
Citizens warned that if the situation is not brought under control, public trust in law enforcement agencies will deteriorate further, and traveling at night may become increasingly unsafe.
