Severe Heatwave and Unusual Weather Patterns Raise Alarm in Balochistan

Quetta: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that severe heatwave conditions and unusual weather changes are intensifying across Balochistan, with temperatures rising significantly above normal levels in many districts.
According to meteorological officials and local weather analysts, several plain areas of the province, including Nasirabad, Sibi, Kachhi, Jaffarabad, Jhal Magsi, Sohbatpur, Usta Muhammad, and Dera Murad Jamali, are experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures reaching between 47°C and 49°C.
Experts cautioned that temperatures may rise even further in the coming days, particularly in the Kachhi and Sibi belt, where mercury levels could climb to 51°C to 53°C.
Weather experts also predicted the development of a powerful localized weather system over upper and central Balochistan on May 10 and 11. Initial forecasts suggest dust storms, strong winds, thunderstorms, and isolated rainfall in parts of the province, especially around Kachhi.
In southern and coastal Balochistan, including Turbat, Gwadar, Lasbela, and parts of the Nasirabad division, changing weather conditions are also expected during the evening and nighttime hours of May 10 and 11, potentially bringing gusty winds, dust storms, and scattered rain.
The Meteorological Department has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight, increase water intake, and take special care of children and the elderly during the ongoing heatwave.
Hospital sources warned that cases of heatstroke, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses could rise as temperatures continue to soar.
Meanwhile, weather analysts have also forecast another strong local weather system before Eid-ul-Adha. Preliminary reports indicate that between May 18 and 22, districts including Nasirabad, Kachhi, Khuzdar, and Sibi may experience thunderstorms, dust storms, strong winds, and isolated rainfall.
Experts said weather conditions across Balochistan are expected to remain highly unusual during the second and third weeks of May, with extreme heat combined with sudden storm systems affecting different parts of the province. Citizens, farmers, and travelers have been advised to closely monitor weather updates and follow official safety guidelines.
