Punjab Expected to Experience Above-Normal Temperatures and Rainfall in Coming Months: PDMA

Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather advisory warning of above-normal temperatures and varying rainfall patterns across the province in the coming months.
According to a spokesperson for PDMA, Punjab is likely to experience higher-than-normal temperatures during May, while overall weather conditions from May to July may include increased rainfall activity in some regions.
The authority warned that a heatwave is expected across most districts of Punjab from May 7 to May 11, with temperatures remaining above seasonal averages.
PDMA also stated that northern and northwestern parts of Punjab are likely to receive above-normal rainfall, while eastern Punjab may experience slightly below-normal rainfall. Central Punjab is expected to receive near-normal precipitation.
In response to the forecast, relevant departments have been placed on alert in line with directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Notices have been issued to local government bodies, the Environmental Protection Department, Health Department, Forest Department, Tourism, Transport, and Education Departments, as well as commissioners, deputy commissioners, police, WASA, and Rescue 1122.
PDMA Director General Umar Javaid urged all departments to complete advance preparations. He advised citizens to take precautionary measures during adverse weather conditions, avoid unnecessary travel during heatwave conditions, and increase water intake.
He further advised parents to keep children and elderly individuals away from direct sunlight, and warned people to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and lightning activity.
Citizens have also been advised to stay away from weak structures and mud houses during severe weather conditions. In case of emergencies, the public can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
