Former India Fast Bowler Salil Ankola Admitted to Hospital for Depression Treatment

Former Indian fast bowler Salil Ankola has been admitted to a mental health care centre due to severe depression, according to Indian media reports.
Reports state that the 58-year-old is currently undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation facility near Pune, where he is receiving care for mental health concerns. His condition reportedly worsened following the death of his mother in 2024.
His wife, Ria Ankola, said that the former cricketer had been emotionally distressed for some time and experienced recent breakdowns, which led the family to decide on structured treatment in a peaceful environment. She added that he is showing signs of improvement and is receiving strong support from the cricket community.
Salil Ankola represented India in one Test match and 20 One Day Internationals during his international career. Notably, his Test debut came in 1989 against Pakistan in Karachi, a match that also featured debut appearances of cricket legends such as Sachin Tendulkar and Wasim Akram.
Ankola retired from international cricket in 1997 due to a tumor in his chin and later worked in films and television as an actor.
