Abid Sher Ali Thanks PM Shehbaz Sharif After Petrol and Diesel Price Hike

Islamabad: Following an increase in fuel prices, ruling party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Abid Sher Ali has expressed his stance on social media platform X, thanking Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for what he described as difficult but necessary economic decisions.
In his statement, Abid Sher Ali said that despite challenging circumstances, the Prime Minister tried to provide relief to the public and understood the hardships faced by the people. He added that due to rising international oil prices, the government avoided passing on the full burden of the increase to consumers.
He further stated that from day one, the government has made efforts to ensure that potential economic pressure—linked to global developments such as the Iran–US situation—does not directly impact the public. He expressed hope that future decisions would also be taken in the broader national interest.
It is worth noting that the federal government recently increased petroleum prices at the end of April. According to official figures, petrol prices were raised by Rs6.51 per litre, while diesel saw an increase of Rs19.39 per litre.

After the revision, the new price of petrol reached Rs399.86 per litre, while diesel was priced at Rs399.58 per litre. The new rates came into effect immediately after the notification was issued.
The Petroleum Division also confirmed changes in petroleum levies, reducing petrol levy by Rs3.88 per litre, while imposing a Rs28.69 per litre levy on diesel, which was previously zero. The levy on high-octane fuel was also increased, according to the official notification.
