Gwadar Development Prioritised in CPEC Phase-II, Major Connectivity Projects Under Review

Gwadar (Daily Qudrat): A high-level online meeting was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal to review proposed projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (China–Pakistan Economic Corridor) Phase-II (2025–29), with special focus on the development of Gwadar.
The meeting was attended by secretaries and senior officials from various federal ministries and divisions. Chairman Gwadar Port Authority Noor-ul-Haq Baloch and Director General Gwadar Development Authority Moin-ur-Rehman Khan also participated via video link.
Officials reviewed multiple proposals aimed at accelerating Gwadar’s development, including initiatives related to the blue economy, local industrialization, the establishment of a mineral corridor, and enhanced connectivity between Gwadar Port and Central Asian states.
The extension of the East Bay Expressway Phase-II was also discussed and proposed for inclusion in CPEC Phase-II to improve regional connectivity and infrastructure development.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing projects in sectors such as communications, energy, science and technology, and agriculture across the country.
It was informed that preparations are underway for high-level visits marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. The Prime Minister is expected to review these arrangements in the coming days.
Ahsan Iqbal directed all relevant ministries to finalize their proposals and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) under the CPEC Phase-II action plan at the earliest so they can be presented at the upcoming Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting.
He further emphasized close coordination with Chinese authorities to resolve pending financial and technical issues, ensuring timely and effective implementation of CPEC Phase-II projects.
