Princess Diana’s Former Associate Dr Hasnat Khan Returns to Pakistan, Appointed Head of Cardiology Institute

LAHORE: Renowned cardiologist Hasnat Khan, widely known for his past association with Princess Diana, has returned to Pakistan from the United Kingdom and has been appointed head of the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology in Lahore.
According to reports shared by journalist Murtaza Ali Shah, Dr Hasnat Khan will serve in dual roles as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Dean of the institute. The facility is expected to emerge as one of Lahore’s major centers for cardiac care, with preparations nearing completion.
Officials have confirmed that recruitment and staffing processes are already underway, indicating that the institute will soon become operational. Dr Khan’s return after years of service in the UK healthcare system is being seen as a significant development for Pakistan’s medical sector, particularly in cardiology.
Dr Hasnat Khan gained international attention in 1995 when he met Princess Diana at Royal Brompton Hospital during her visit to see a patient. Their relationship later became widely known, with reports suggesting Diana affectionately referred to him as “Mr. Wonderful.”


Born in Jhelum, Dr Khan completed his early medical education at King Edward Medical College before moving to the UK, where he served for many years as a leading cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital and earned a strong professional reputation.
His appointment is expected to enhance access to advanced cardiac treatment facilities in Lahore and contribute to the development of modern healthcare services in the region.
