Over 1,100 Balochistan Police Personnel Sacrificed Lives for Public Safety: IG Police

Inspector General of Police Balochistan Mohammad Tahir has stated that around 1,139 police personnel have laid down their lives in the line of duty to protect the lives and property of citizens in the province.
He shared these remarks while briefing officers undergoing training at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) Quetta during their study visit to the Central Police Office.
The IG highlighted that Balochistan Police continues to play a vital role in maintaining law and order through professional capabilities. He noted that during a special campaign conducted last year, authorities arrested 780 proclaimed offenders, 1,466 absconders, and 1,404 criminals, while also recovering 26 kidnapped individuals.
Senior officials, including Syed Ali Raza Shah, Agha Mohammad Yousaf, Javed Ali Mehar, and Hasan Asad Alvi, were present at the briefing along with other officers.
The visiting trainees were also given a tour of key facilities at the Central Police Office, including the Data Command and Communication Center, library, museum, and daycare center.
IG Mohammad Tahir said reforms were already underway before the merger of B and A areas and are now being accelerated further. He emphasized the use of Safe City cameras to monitor traffic and criminal activity, noting positive results.
He also highlighted the establishment of a Serious Crime Wing to tackle complex and unresolved cases, as well as open courts (Khuli Kachehri) in various districts to strengthen public trust in the police.
The IG added that a dedicated department exists to support the families of police martyrs, ensuring their welfare and addressing their concerns. He also stressed that under an internal accountability system, officers are rewarded for good performance and penalized for poor conduct.
He further noted that police, in coordination with other institutions, have actively assisted citizens during natural disasters such as heavy rains, snowfall, and floods. A rescue unit has also been set up in Ziarat Valley, including female staff, to assist tourists in emergencies.
At the end of the session, commemorative shields were exchanged between IG Mohammad Tahir and NIPA Director General Syed Ali Raza Shah.
