Balochistan Assembly Erupts in Protest Over Alleged Killing of Youth by Police

QUETTA: Strong protests were witnessed in the Balochistan Assembly after the alleged killing of a young man, Khalid Sasoli, reportedly by members of a police Eagle Squad in Quetta.

Lawmakers from both treasury and opposition benches expressed anger over the incident and demanded a transparent inquiry. During the session, Prince Agha Umar Ahmadzai led prayers for the deceased and urged the formation of an immediate investigation committee, stating that the victim had come to donate blood when he was allegedly killed.

Opposition Leader Mir Younis Aziz Zehri questioned who had authorized the Eagle Squad to use lethal force, alleging that the victim was shot and that marks of violence were found on his body. He called for an urgent probe into the incident.

Lawmakers, including Rehmat Saleh Baloch, criticized the conduct of the Eagle Squad, saying such actions were tarnishing the image of the police, whose primary duty is to protect citizens.

Responding to the concerns, Balochistan Home Minister Ziaullah Langove assured the assembly that protecting citizens’ lives and property remains the government’s top priority. He said that Sarfaraz Bugti had sought reports on both the Hazara Town and Sasoli incidents and that strict action would be taken against those found responsible.

Addressing the session, Chief Minister Bugti described the incident as deeply regrettable and pledged that the inquiry would be completed swiftly. He emphasized that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands, adding that any official found guilty would face strict punishment.

Separately, lawmaker Rehmat Saleh Baloch staged a walkout from the assembly in protest over the allocation of offices to standing committees.
