JUI-F to Seek Consensus Draft on Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act After Consulting Opposition

Quetta: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has announced that it will consult opposition parties before presenting a consensus-based draft on the proposed Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act.
A meeting of the JUI-F provincial committee on mines and minerals was held under the chairmanship of provincial chief Maulana Abdul Wasey in Quetta, where the party’s proposed amendments to the legislation were reviewed.
According to party officials, it was decided that the draft law prepared by JUI-F would be shared with other opposition parties first to ensure broader consultation and consensus before being presented to the government. The aim is to safeguard the rights of the people of Balochistan and its tribal communities.
The meeting noted that the party had earlier strongly opposed the government’s version of the Mines and Minerals Act, which led to its temporary suspension. Authorities have since invited suggestions from the opposition leader for possible amendments.
Senior participants in the meeting included Senator Kamran Murtaza, opposition leader Mir Younis Aziz Zehri, and Member of Provincial Assembly Mir Zabid Reki.
Leaders emphasized that the final objective is to develop a mutually agreed legislative framework that reflects all stakeholders’ concerns and ensures the protection of local rights and resources in Balochistan.
