Pakistan Helped Prevent Major Global War, Claims Defence Minister Khawaja Asif

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has claimed that Pakistan played a key role in preventing a major global conflict by facilitating the recent ceasefire between United States and Iran.

Speaking to the media outside Parliament House, Asif congratulated the nation, stating that Pakistan had earned global recognition as a trusted mediator. He said the country’s diplomatic efforts had elevated its international standing, with attention from global powers and regional allies focused on Islamabad.

He added that tensions had escalated dangerously until recently, but efforts by Army Chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif helped secure the ceasefire. According to Asif, this success marks the beginning of a new phase of political stability in Pakistan, allowing the government to focus on economic recovery.

The defence minister praised what he described as a “hybrid model” of civil-military cooperation, saying it had delivered significant achievements over the past few years and demonstrated Pakistan’s potential on the global stage when institutions work together.

In a strong statement targeting India, Asif criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming he had been sidelined and had “nothing left,” while accusing Indian media of reacting negatively to recent developments.

He further stated that Pakistan had successfully countered a much larger adversary and claimed that India was still trying to restore its international image.

Addressing internal challenges, Asif emphasized the need for national focus on economic stability, counterterrorism, and internal security. He also urged Afghanistan to acknowledge Pakistan’s long-standing support and hospitality, warning that failure to do so could limit future cooperation.
