“Giving US Airbases Will Destroy Regional Peace,” Says JUI’s Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri*

Karachi/Islamabad — Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Secretary General and Member of the National Assembly Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri warned on **October 1, 2025** that permitting the United States to use Pakistani airbases would spell the destruction of peace in the region. ([ایکسپریس اردو][1])

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Haideri described the prime minister’s upcoming visit to the United States as “important,” but stressed that past friendships with the U.S. have often proven costly for Pakistan, whereas China had stood by Pakistan during difficult times. He urged the government to proceed cautiously in its ties with the U.S. and to further strengthen relations with China. ([Jang][2])

Haideri also voiced support for the recent Pakistan–Saudi defense agreement, saying JUI welcomes efforts to promote cooperation among Muslim countries on defence and advanced technology. He suggested that broader Muslim participation — including Iran and others — would make any such defence arrangement stronger and more effective. ([ایکسپریس اردو][1])

On domestic issues, Haideri criticized what he described as inadequate federal action to improve conditions in Balochistan, citing poor road connectivity (noting the single carriageway to Tftan) and calling for concrete steps from the centre to address the province’s problems. ([ایکسپریس اردو][1])

He further accused behind-the-scenes influence by the U.S. and India for creating instability in the region and reiterated JUI’s view that Pakistan should deepen strategic ties with China, pointing to Beijing’s investments and development efforts as a model to follow. ([Jang][2])
