Ali Pervaiz Malik noted that while the initial impact of price adjustments was borne by the public during the first week, the government has absorbed the burden over the past two weeks to provide relief. He added that consultations with provincial governments are ongoing to further minimize the impact on citizens.
The minister also warned that hoarding will not be tolerated, assuring that the government maintains sufficient fuel reserves to meet national demand.
Meanwhile, Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, confirmed that the government has reduced the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) budget by 10 percent to avoid increasing petroleum prices. The development budget, initially set at PKR 1 trillion for the current fiscal year, has now been reduced to PKR 900 billion.
Officials stated that the move is aimed at preventing further increases in fuel prices while maintaining economic stability.
