Balochistan Highways Have Become Killing Grounds and Hubs of Robbery: JUI

QUETTA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leaders in Quetta have expressed serious concern over the deteriorating security situation on Balochistan’s national highways, describing them as “killing grounds and hubs of robbery.”

JUI Quetta leaders, including district chief Maulana Abdul Rahman Rafiq and General Secretary Haji Ainullah Shams, said incidents of passengers being robbed, vehicles being snatched and citizens being killed for resisting criminals had become increasingly common.

They said persistent terrorism, highway robberies and armed crimes had made travel on major national highways in the province extremely dangerous. Passengers were living in severe anxiety over the safety of their lives and property, while the public had become deeply disappointed with the performance of government and security institutions.

The JUI leaders said national highways were vital to a country’s economic and social system, but failure to ensure the safety of citizens travelling on Balochistan’s highways amounted to serious negligence on the part of the government.

They demanded immediate and effective security measures on the highways and called for indiscriminate action against terrorists, robbers and other criminal elements. The government, they said, must take concrete steps to protect the lives and property of passengers.
