Pakistan Receives First Roll-on/Roll-off Shipment of Over 2,000 Electric Vehicles at Karachi Port

Islamabad: Pakistan has received its first-ever Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) shipment carrying more than 2,000 electric vehicles (EVs), marking a significant milestone in the country’s maritime and logistics sector.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced that the vessel MV Grande Shanghai successfully docked at the KGTL Terminal at Karachi Port, where the electric vehicles are being unloaded.

The minister described the arrival of the country’s first Ro-Ro EV shipment as an important step in Pakistan’s maritime and commercial history, saying it reflects ongoing efforts to modernize port operations and strengthen logistics infrastructure.

He explained that Ro-Ro vessels are specially designed to allow vehicles to be driven directly on and off the ship, reducing loading and unloading time, lowering handling costs, and improving cargo efficiency.

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the successful handling of the first Ro-Ro electric vehicle shipment demonstrates the growing capability of Karachi Port and will help enhance Pakistan’s position in regional and international trade.

He added that the government remains committed to upgrading Karachi Port with modern shipping facilities to support increased trade, improve logistics services, and promote economic growth.
