Tailor Shot Dead During Robbery in Quetta; Traders Reject Early Shop Closure Orders Ahead of Eid

Quetta, Daily Qudrat – With Eid-ul-Fitr approaching, Quetta is witnessing an alarming rise in robberies and criminal incidents, raising serious concerns among the city’s business community. Last night, a tragic incident occurred in the Nawan Kali area on Abdul Khaliq Road, where a tailor was shot dead during a robbery.
According to local sources, armed assailants entered the tailor’s shop at night and, during an attempted theft, shot him when he resisted. The victim died instantly, sparking fear and panic in the surrounding area. Local traders and shopkeepers strongly protested the inadequate security measures in the city.
Traders reported that robberies and thefts have surged in Nawan Kali and neighboring areas as Eid approaches, leaving shopkeepers feeling unsafe. They demanded that the police take strict action against criminals and apprehend the culprits. However, instead of strengthening security, the police issued orders requiring all shops in the area to close by 11 p.m. during Eid.
The business community rejected this directive, arguing that limiting shop hours will harm their business during the peak shopping season. They stressed that effective police action against criminals would eliminate the need for early closures.
Traders have called on the Chief Minister of Balochistan and the Inspector General of Police to intervene, increase police patrolling in Nawan Kali and surrounding areas, and ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators. They warned that failure to improve security could force the business community to stage protests to protect their rights, holding authorities responsible for any resulting consequences.
