Bank Account Requirement Scrapped for Rs12,500 Ramadan Package in KP; New Disbursement Method Announced

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially removed the mandatory bank account requirement for beneficiaries of the Ramadan Package 2026, paving the way for thousands of deserving families to receive financial assistance more easily.

Under the package, the provincial government had announced Rs12,500 in financial aid for needy families. However, the earlier condition requiring beneficiaries to possess a bank account had triggered widespread criticism from citizens and local representatives, who termed it “unrealistic,” particularly for people living in remote and underdeveloped areas.

Access to banking facilities remains limited in many rural parts of the province, where a large number of residents neither have bank accounts nor are familiar with formal banking procedures.

New and Simplified Procedure

According to an official notification, beneficiaries will now be registered on the basis of their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) and mobile phone number instead of a bank account.

Officials claim that the revised mechanism will enhance transparency, expand access to assistance, and ensure the timely distribution of funds. The move is expected to benefit thousands of families who were previously at risk of being excluded due to the bank account condition.
