Cylinder Explosion Sparks Deadly Fire in Karachi Apartment; Teenager Killed, Several Injured

A gas cylinder explosion triggered a fire in a residential apartment near Hyderi in North Nazimabad, Karachi, resulting in the death of a 15-year-old boy and injuries to several others, including a pregnant woman.

According to rescue officials, the blaze erupted on the 10th floor of the building and was later brought under control. Cooling operations are still underway to prevent the fire from reigniting.

Rescue sources said panic spread among residents following the explosion. Emergency teams responded promptly, extinguished the fire, and safely evacuated all individuals trapped inside the building.

The injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

The deceased teenager was identified as Burhan, son of Aoun. His body was later taken to Sakhi Hassan Graveyard for burial. Initial reports also mentioned the deaths of two more individuals — a seven-year-old child and a 50-year-old man — but official confirmation is still awaited.

Among the injured are Fatima (30), wife of Haneen; Ansiya (4), daughter of Haneen; Tasneem (70); and Haneen (40), son of Fazal Abbas.

A spokesperson for Rescue 1122 confirmed that the rescue operation has been completed, while precautionary cooling measures continue.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion was caused by a gas cylinder blast, though authorities are conducting a thorough inquiry to determine the exact cause.

Meanwhile, Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the Karachi commissioner. He directed officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured and to identify the causes of the incident to prevent similar accidents in the future.
