FBR Orders Online Monitoring of Businesses Across Pakistan, POS Systems to Be Installed Nationwide

Lahore: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a major initiative to monitor business activities online across the country. According to a recent notification, over 14 types of businesses will now be required to install Point of Sale (POS) systems to ensure proper tracking and compliance.

The notification specifies that hotels, restaurants, guesthouses, marriage halls, marquees, and race clubs must install POS systems, though establishments without air-conditioning may be exempt.

In addition, city transportation services, courier and cargo companies, dentists, physiotherapists, plastic and hair surgeons, veterinary doctors, medical labs, and imaging centers including X-ray, CT, and MRI facilities are also required to implement POS systems.

Beauty parlors, massage centers, pedicure salons, and private hospitals are included in the mandate as well, with hospitals charging a fee of up to PKR 500 granted exemption. Health clubs, gyms, swimming pools, multi-purpose clubs, polo clubs (civil and non-civil), chartered accountants, and cost management accountants will also need POS integration.

The notification further mentions that POS systems will be mandatory for gyms and clubs in major cities including Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad. Retailers, manufacturers, importers, foreign exchange dealers, currency exchange companies, private educational institutions, and vocational training institutes will also be required to integrate POS systems online, though institutions charging a monthly fee of up to PKR 1,000 will be exempt.

The FBR’s initiative aims to increase transparency, streamline revenue collection, and ensure regulatory compliance across a wide range of sectors, marking a significant step toward digitization of business operations in Pakistan.
