Devastating Rainfall in Balochistan Claims 12 Lives and Causes Widespread Damage

Quetta:Severe rainfall in Balochistan has led to significant destruction, with 12 people reported dead and several others injured due to flooding and landslides. A strong monsoon system is affecting the northern, northeastern, and southern districts of Balochistan, including Quetta, with forecasts predicting rain in 22 districts.

According to the Meteorological Department, this weather system is expected to persist until August 6, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Panjgur, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Mastung, Sibi, Sherani, Kohlu, Bolan, Hernai, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti, Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, and Qalat. The region may also experience flooding in streams and landslides due to intense rainfall.

The recent monsoon rains, along with lightning and floods, have resulted in 12 deaths and 32 injuries across several districts. The rains and floods have damaged 263 houses, with 91 homes completely destroyed. Additionally, 312 acres of crops and 19 kilometers of roads have been affected, and 106 livestock have perished.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Balochistan has warned the public to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from flood-prone areas. PDMA has instructed all relevant agencies to remain on high alert and urged citizens to exercise caution to prevent further loss. Meanwhile, rain with thunder continues in various regions of Balochistan, affecting access roads and severing connectivity between several areas.
