ICC Confirms No Penalty for Bangladesh, Promises Hosting Rights After T20 World Cup 2026 Talks

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released details of its recent negotiations with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), confirming that Bangladesh will face no penalties for not participating in the T20 World Cup 2026.

According to the ICC statement, Bangladesh will also be granted the opportunity to host an ICC event between 2028 and 2031.

The discussions, held in Lahore, focused on Pakistan’s potential boycott of its match against India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and BCB President Aminul Islam attended the five-hour-long negotiations. Sources said PCB’s priority was to address Bangladesh’s concerns and ensure fairness.

During the talks, proposals were exchanged between the ICC and BCB, and PCB facilitated the dialogue. The ICC reportedly responded positively to BCB’s demands and formulated a solution to address the grievances raised by Bangladesh.

Following the discussions, Pakistan confirmed it will play its scheduled T20 World Cup match against India on February 15, acting on a request from the Sri Lankan President. Meanwhile, BCB also formally requested Pakistan to play against India. In its statement, BCB thanked PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for his support during the process.

Earlier, Pakistan had announced it would boycott the India match in solidarity with Bangladesh, which had requested to move its matches from India due to security concerns. The ICC had rejected Bangladesh’s request and included Scotland in the event instead. Pakistan’s initial refusal to play India had threatened significant financial losses for the ICC.
