Effective Traditional Remedies to Keep Skin Soft During Winter

Islamabad: While winter brings cozy clothes and pleasant sunshine, it also increases skin problems, particularly dryness. In Pakistan, cold winds, low humidity, and frequent use of hot water often leave skin rough, dull, and sometimes itchy.

Effects of Cold Weather on Skin
During winter, the air holds less moisture, making it difficult for skin to retain its natural hydration. Cold winds draw moisture from the skin’s surface, while indoor heaters or warm environments further aggravate dryness, leaving the skin tight, rough, and lifeless.

Excessive Use of Hot Water
Bathing in hot water is common during winters, but it can harm the skin by stripping away natural oils that help keep it soft and protected. Frequent handwashing with hot water can also worsen dryness.

Nutritional Deficiencies and Dehydration
Reduced thirst in winter often leads to less water intake, directly affecting the skin. Deficiencies in vitamins A and E, as well as healthy fats, can further contribute to dryness. An unbalanced diet weakens the skin from within.

Coconut and Olive Oil
Traditional remedies highlight the benefits of coconut and olive oils. Applying a small amount of either oil after bathing helps retain moisture and reduces dryness. A gentle massage before bed can make the skin soft and supple.

Milk and Honey Natural Mask
A simple home remedy for winter dryness is a milk and honey mask. Mix one tablespoon of milk with half a tablespoon of honey, apply it to the face, and rinse after 10–15 minutes with lukewarm water. This mask hydrates the skin and restores its natural glow.

Gram Flour (Besan) and Yogurt
A paste made from gram flour and yogurt helps remove dead skin cells and reduce dryness. Applying this mask once or twice a week on the face or hands keeps the skin soft and naturally radiant.

Daily Care Tips
To protect skin during winter, limit bath duration, avoid excessively hot water, and use suitable moisturizers. Drinking adequate water and maintaining a balanced diet are also essential for healthy skin from within.

Although winter dryness is common, a few simple traditional remedies and daily precautions can help keep skin soft, smooth, and healthy, improving overall lifestyle as well.
