Fourth Consecutive Relief Likely for Consumers as Fuel Prices Expected to Drop from January 16

Pakistani consumers may receive relief for the fourth consecutive time as a reduction in petroleum product prices is expected from **January 16**, officials said on Tuesday. The anticipated cut would further ease the burden on the public following significant price reductions at the start of the new year.
According to sources, petroleum prices may be reduced by **up to Rs4.59 per litre overall**. Under the proposed working, **petrol is expected to become cheaper by Rs4.59 per litre**, while **high-speed diesel may see a reduction of Rs2.70 per litre**. Similarly, **kerosene oil prices are likely to drop by Rs1.82 per litre**, and **light diesel oil by Rs2.08 per litre**.
After approval from the Prime Minister, the **Petroleum Division will formally announce the revised prices**, which will remain effective for the next **15 days**.
It is pertinent to note that on **January 1, 2026**, the government had reduced petrol prices by **Rs10.28 per litre** and high-speed diesel by **Rs8.57 per litre**, providing major relief to consumers at the beginning of the year.
Officials attributed the expected price decrease to a **decline in international oil prices**, **reduced customs duties**, and **changes in currency exchange rates**. In the global market, petrol prices fell by **$2.74 per barrel on January 11**, bringing the price down to **$66.54 per barrel**.
The government hopes the continued reduction in fuel prices will help control inflation and provide further economic relief to the public.
