Trump Praises Pakistani Leadership, Signals Tough Stance on Iran Nuclear Issue

Washington: US President Donald Trump has expressed admiration for Pakistan’s leadership, stating that he has “great respect” for both the country’s prime minister and its military leadership.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the United States values its relationship with Pakistan and holds its leadership in high regard.
On the issue of Iran, Trump reiterated his firm stance, saying he is not satisfied with Tehran’s latest proposals regarding a potential agreement. He emphasized that under no circumstances should Iran be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.
US officials confirmed that communication with Iran is ongoing, including phone discussions, and that Tehran has shared new proposals through diplomatic channels. However, details of these proposals have not been made public.
Trump noted that while Iran appears interested in reaching a deal, the outcome remains uncertain. He suggested that divisions within Iran’s leadership are complicating negotiations and warned that the country must decide whether to pursue a lasting agreement or face further consequences.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the US is considering expanding restrictions, including measures affecting Iranian ports and potentially the strategic Strait of Hormuz, as part of efforts to increase pressure on Tehran.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has been in contact with regional counterparts, including officials from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, Egypt, and Azerbaijan, discussing Iran’s position on negotiations and de-escalation efforts.
The developments highlight ongoing tensions and diplomatic efforts surrounding Iran’s nuclear program, with Washington maintaining a strict policy aimed at preventing nuclear proliferation in the region.
