US Approves $686 Million Radar Upgrade for Pakistan’s F-16 Fleet Despite Indian Objections

Islamabad/Washington: The United States Department of State has approved a major defense package for Pakistan, allowing the upgrade of radar and avionics systems for the Pakistan Air Force F-16 fighter jet fleet, despite objections from India.
Valued at approximately $686 million, the program aims to enhance the operational capabilities of Pakistan’s F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft and extend their service life through 2040 by equipping them with modern technology.
India had reportedly raised concerns over the deal and sought to block it, arguing it could impact regional security dynamics. However, US officials clarified that the upgrade is intended to support counterterrorism efforts and would not alter the strategic balance in the region.
The decision underscores ongoing defense cooperation between the United States and Pakistan, focusing on maintaining and modernizing existing military platforms rather than expanding offensive capabilities.
