BNP Leader Demands Probe into Alleged Corruption in Panjgur Water Management, Warns of Protests

Panjgur: Balochistan National Party (BNP) Central Joint Secretary Zamindar Mir Nazir Ahmed Baloch has called for an immediate investigation into alleged corruption and irregularities in the Water Management Department in Panjgur, warning that protests and a siege of the department’s office will be launched in collaboration with local farmers if justice is not delivered.

Speaking to the media, Mir Nazir Ahmed Baloch said that farmers in the area are being forced to continue agricultural activities through self-help, while government relief and incentives are allegedly misappropriated before reaching the intended beneficiaries. He alleged that millions of rupees provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the rehabilitation of flood-affected farmers—specifically for land leveling and tractor hours—were unfairly distributed. According to him, farmers in various areas were ignored, while only a few were allotted limited tractor services, amounting to serious injustice.

He further stated that last year the Water Management Department Panjgur announced an ADB-supported project under which each farmer was to receive land leveling for three to four acres and tractor services for the construction of 400 to 600 feet of embankments. However, he claimed that the project has yet to be completed in any tehsil.

Mir Nazir Ahmed Baloch alleged that farmers in tehsils Kohban, Gwarago, Parom, Nokar, Sabzab, Gachak, and other areas neither received the promised facilities nor witnessed transparent implementation of the project. He accused the authorities of corruption, incompetence, and exploitation of farmers, adding that the right to stage strong protests against these injustices is being reserved.

He said that farmers in Panjgur are spending hundreds of thousands and even millions of rupees from their own pockets to sustain agriculture, while government relief remains absent. Funds provided by the Asian Development Bank, he alleged, have fallen victim to corruption and favoritism instead of being utilized for farmers’ rehabilitation.
