Heavy Rain Turns Quetta Roads into Ponds, Water Enters Homes and Shops, Daily Life Disrupted

**Quetta:** Recent rainfall in Quetta has once again exposed the city’s weak drainage system, leaving most major roads submerged and severely disrupting daily life. Traffic flow was badly affected as rainwater accumulated on main arteries and inner streets, creating pond-like conditions across the city.
Key areas including Jinnah Road, Sariab Road, Sabzal Road, Brewery Road, Kasi Road, Spini Road, and Nawan Killi were among the worst affected, where stagnant water remained on roads for hours. The situation led to frequent traffic jams, vehicles breaking down in waterlogged streets, and several motorcycle riders slipping due to mud and potholes.
In many low-lying localities, rainwater entered homes and shops, damaging household goods and commercial items. Shopkeepers complained that business activities came to a standstill as waterlogged streets made it impossible for customers to reach markets. Residents said the same problems recur after every rainfall, but no permanent drainage solutions have been implemented.
Heavy rain also caused power outages in several parts of the city, adding to public hardship during the cold weather. The suspension of electricity affected households as well as businesses, while gas shortages were also reported in some areas, making cooking difficult for residents.
Citizens have raised serious concerns over the performance of the Municipal Corporation and district administration, stating that the failure to clean drains and sewerage lines before the rains led to widespread flooding. They demanded immediate removal of accumulated water, improvement of the drainage system, and urgent measures to cope with future rainfall to prevent repeated disruption and suffering.
