Senior Journalist Hamid Mir Calls General (R) Faiz Hameed’s Sentence Just the Beginning

Islamabad (Daily Qudrat) — Senior journalist **Hamid Mir** stated that for the **first time in Pakistan’s history, a former ISI chief has been sentenced**, describing the verdict against **General (R) Faiz Hameed** as only the beginning. He noted that **many more cases are yet to emerge, while several have already surfaced**.
Commenting on the case during his program, Hamid Mir highlighted that **General Hameed’s three lawyers defended him over 15 months**. In total, **24 witnesses appeared against him and 3 in his favor**, with all three defense witnesses personally meeting General Hameed before testifying. The defense lawyers **posed 8,000 questions to opposing witnesses**, and lawyer **Mian Ali Ashfaq delivered arguments for 14.5 hours in a single day**.
According to Hamid Mir, this verdict marks the **beginning of efforts to curb political engineering** in Pakistan. He added that the sentence will be **beneficial for the country**, gradually **reducing agency interference in politics** and reinforcing the rule of law.
